One Thing is Needed

“Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things, but one thing is needed and Mary has chosen a good part which will be not taken away from her.”

Jesus Christ, Luke 10:41-42

I had been trying to move my several projects forward for months, with little success. Summer was a perfect season to work in my garden and share my perplexed state of mind with God. One morning, I was checking on my cedar seedlings and it started raining.

One raindrop after another landed as tears of joy on the surface of the lake, forming miniature precise rings that were expanding, greeting other circles and dissolving in their unity.

When it poured, the water bullets, as if competing for the landing spot on the surface, destroyed the elegance of circles, and birthed chaos.

A thought leaped to my mind: “You are worried and troubled about many things, but one thing is needed.”

Heavenly Teardrops

A downpour of my chaotic feelings
hinders tranquil teardrops
of Your heavenly vision;
one by one,
as the clear mineral springs,
they should gather
into a well of one and only destiny.
My Lord, do not let
the downpour of my chaotic feelings
hinder the tranquil teardrops
of Your loving vision.

Thank you for reading.
